Umm Ali .... the name itself is so interesting!
An Egyptian version of bread pudding served during special occasions.
Legend has it that Umm Ali is named after Sultan Ezz El Din
Aybak’s wife, back in the 13th century.
She made it for a victory celebration, and distributed it among the
people of the land. Her name stuck to
this tasty dish ever since. Hope you all will try this simple dessert for Eid and enjoy with family.
Eid Mubarak
Ingredients
- 10 puff pastry squares
- 1 tin condensed milk
- 2 cup milk
- 1cup whipping cream
- 2tbsugar (optional)
- 1 cup dry fruits (pistachios, almonds nuts and raisin)
- 4 cardamoms crushed or 1/2 tsp cinnamon (according to your taste)
Thaw puff pastry squares for two hrs until its soft. Spread them in a baking pan and bake until it is golden brown. Mix the condensed milk and milk in a sauce pan ,along with crushed cardamoms and bring it to a boil. Crush the pastries with your hand spread evenly in a baking dish. Pour milk mixture and sprinkle the dry fruits on top of it. Beat the whipping cream and pour this on top of this and bake for another 15 -20 min until it is golden brown. Garnish with dry fruits and serve warm.
Do Note
Croissants can be used instead of puff pastry. For this recipe 6 big croissants are enough. It has to be cut and soaked in milk mixture.
