An evening in Sandwich Factory

Freshly prepared sandwiches, nice cozy ambience and pocket friendly menu located at the heart of Doha, is a brief description about the Sandwich Factory - new addition to Doha's food culture.

Doha tweet-ups initiated a small gathering for their soft launch and menu tasting. Really happy to be a part of this, and to cherish a wonderful evening with my fellow food bloggers.

The event started with small talk regarding the factory of sandwiches, where everything is  fresh, incorporating western and Arabic cuisines. The management stressed that they are open to all sorts of comments and criticism which help them to grow and diversify. Keeping this in mind we thought of ordering quite a few entrée from their menu.

Broken Wheat Payasam

Advance new year wishes to all. According to Malayalam calendar Vishu marks the beginning of a  new year . It is a festival of prosperity, a new beginning and an anticipation that  all auspicious things which you see soon after you wake up will bring us happiness ,good luck, health and wealth throughout the year. So my Vishukaineetam for this Vishu is a wheat  payasam recipe .

Happy Vishu.

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup broken wheat
  • 250 gms jiggery
  • 2 cup thin coconut milk
  • 1 cup thick coconut milk
  • 3 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 tablespoon sago seeds
  • cashew nuts, raisins and coconut pieces 1 teaspoon each
  • 1 tsp cardamom powdered

Dry roast wheat for 3 minutes  . Wash this and add 1cup water and cook this in a pressure cooker till you hear 3 whistles.

Microwave jaggery with 1 cup water in a glass bowl for 3 -4 minutes or until it dissolves completely. Strain this and add this to cooked wheat along with 2 tbsp ghee. Let this simmer till it becomes slightly thick . Add thin coconut milk and soaked sago seeds.

Boil this for around 10 minutes so that  the sago seeds are cooked properly and everything is combined to a slightly thick consistency. Finally pour thick coconut milk and immediately switch off the flame once it starts to simmer. Add powdered cardamom and sauté nuts ,raisins and coconut pieces in 1 tablespoon ghee and garnish .

Oreo Coffee Choc Ice Cream

Summer is here and it's a good excuse to splurge on this  creamy, delicious and super easy home made ice cream with a hint of coffee. The coffee flavor plus the  crunch from cookies and choc chips make this a personal favourite for a caffeine lover like me.
